About us

Auckland Music Theatre was founded in 1919 and is the longest-running community theatre company in the Auckland region.

Originally called Auckland Amateur Operatic Society in 1919, we were renamed Auckland Operatic Society in 1963, and later Auckland Music Theatre in 1994.

Our proud and distinguished heritage sees us bring a range of high-quality theatre and performance to the community. We enjoy challenging ourselves to produce a range of different works, providing variety and enjoyment for performers and audiences alike.

We have performed in a number of Auckland venues, including the His Majesty’s Theatre, the St James Theatre and the Civic Theatre, as well as at our current home at Westpoint Performing Arts Centre in Western Springs.

Completely volunteer-run, our society thrives on the power of our people and the teamwork required to bring each production to life. Many lifelong friendships are made, and we pride ourselves on encouraging and developing all the talents required to support the arts.

We also have a vast array of costumes and props which are available for hire, as well as our venue space in Western Springs, contact us here to find out more.

Life Members

We are eternally grateful to each of our volunteers for their time and dedication to our society, and especially to those who have earned the title of life member. These people have given many years to Auckland Music Theatre and music theatre in New Zealand. We honour those whose blood, sweat and tears have made our society what it is today, and celebrate those who have given so much for the love of their craft.
